James Harden's hot streak continued on Wednesday night, but it was not enough to get past The Greek Freak and the second-best team in the Eastern Conference. Giannis Antetokounmpo took over the headlines at the Toyota Center, as the Milwaukee Bucks hung on for a 116-109 win over the Houston Rockets. Antetokounmpo had 27 points with a season-high 21 rebounds in a monster double-double, as he overcame another big-time performance by the bearded star. Harden scored 42 points, but a tough third quarter for Houston dropped them behind by as many as 15 points, and they never led in the second half of play. Houston allowed Milwaukee to score 38 points in the 12 minutes after halftime, this after a competitive first half.
The Rockets did put together a fourth quarter rally by scoring eight straight points, cutting the deficit down to five, but they got no closer than three the rest of the way. Antetokounmpo added a late layup and a free throw to seal Milwaukee's victory, as they remain on the heels of the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference standings. Harden had a chance to tie, bout could not connect on a three-pointer late, as the Bucks won for the seventh time in the past eight games.
Despite not coming up big late, Harden did record his sixth 40-point game in the past eight contests, while extending his 30-point game streak to 14 in a row. That is the longest such streak in franchise history since Tracy McGrady did it in 2003. Harden went on to break that streak on Friday night with a 40-point triple-double in a blowout win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Against Milwaukee, he shot 6-of-16 from beyond the arc, and after the game against Cleveland, he now has at least five three-pointers in 11 straight games.
Clint Capela added a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds, but shot just 4-for-16 from the floor .This came just one game after he posted a career-high 31 points in a win over the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. The big man's struggles, along with a 15-0 run to begin the third quarter for the Bucks, hurt the Rockets, and put a halt to their impressive run for just one night.
