The Florida Gators may have rallied to avoid a major upset at the hands of the Kentucky Wildcats this past Saturday night, but it did not come without a downside. The Gators lost quarterback Feleipe Franks after a nasty collision, and head coach Dan Mullen said after the game that the quarterback is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Franks suffered a fractured ankle after he was sandwiched, and awkwardly landed after attempting a slide at the end of a run in the third quarter of Saturday's 29-21 win at Kroger Field.
Franks had started 23 games for Florida before the injury, including a big win over the Michigan Wolverines in last season's bowl game to end the year. The team has not lost a game yet this season, including a big win over the Miami Hurricanes to begin this season. When he went down on Saturday night, his team trailed by 11 points on the road in their SEC opener, but junior Kyle Trask took over to lead the comeback. He completed his first four passes, and ended up running in the go-ahead touchdown with 4:11 left in the fourth quarter.
Following the close victory and losing their starting quarterback, the Gators still sit in the top 10 of the new AP Polls, which were released on Sunday afternoon. Trask is expected to get the start in their next game, which is on Saturday back at home against the Tennessee Volunteers.
