The win puts the Gators in position to be a top-10 team entering the 2019 season, which could mean a shot at the College Football Playoffs next season. Perine had a five-yard touchdown reception and a 53-yard touchdown run, helping the Gators end the season with their fourth straight victory. Meanwhile, Michigan ends what looked to be Jim Harbaugh's best season with two consecutive blowout losses.
Quarterback Feleipe Franks ran and threw for a touchdown, as the Gators offense capitalized on the opportunities that their defense gave them. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson had two interceptions, including one that was returned 30 yards for a touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Gators only held a three-point lead at halftime, but pulled away with a dominant fourth quarter against Shea Patterson and the Wolverines.
Patterson has already announced that he will return to Michigan next season, but they were playing without running back Karan Higdon and leading tacker Devin Bush. Both of those players skipped the game to focus on April's NFL Draft.
The Gators had their best offensive game of the season, totaling 427 yards, including 257 on the ground, all to overcome a bowl loss to Harbaugh's Wolverines from three years ago.
