The Atlanta Falcons suffered a big loss on the defensive side of the ball on Sunday. The team announced before their win over the Arizona Cardinals that cornerback Desmond Trufant will undergo season-ending surgery for a torn pectoral.
The injury originally occurred in week 9 in a Thursday night game against the Buccaneers. He sat out in week 10 against the Eagles, and the team was hopeful he'd be good to go following their bye week.
The Falcons' top corner was limited in practice last week, but remained optimistic about his availablity against Arizona. Now that the severity of the injury is revealed, he will receive more opinions regarding his procedure this week.
The former Pro Bowler has seven career interceptions, including a personal best three in 2014. Atlanta expects Jalen Collins to step in at the position while Trufant is sidelined.
