Freshman Tyus Jones lead the way with 2 big 3-pointers in an 80-70 win over the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday night. Jones finished with 22 points for the Duke Blue Devils, who finished shooting 65 percent from the floor.
Rasheed Sulaimon added 14 points, while Jahlil Okafor had 13 for the 4th ranked, 8-0 Blue Devils.
Wisconsin suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 despite Frank Kaminsky's 17 points. Traevon Jackson lead the way with a career-high 25 points for the Badgers. Wisconsin as a whole struggled, shooting only 40 percent from the floor on the night.
Tyus Jones overwhelmed the Badgers' defense, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor, to go along with 4 assists. Duke improved to 25-13 against top-5 teams on the road under head coach Mike Kryzewski. Duke has defeated a non-conference top-5 team on the road 2 other times under Kryzewski, and reached the national title game both times.
With the loss, the Badgers' 23-game non-conference winning streak was snapped. It was their first loss outside of the Big Ten Conference since losing 60-50 to Marquette on December 8th, 2012.
Coincidentally, Wisconsin will move on to visit Marquette on Saturday night, looking to regroup from their first loss. Duke will not play until December 15th, when they host Elon.
