The second-ranked Duke Blue Devils played their second game, technically their third, without star, Zion Williamson on Tuesday night, and it did not fare well in a road conference showdown. Ty Outlaw had the game-winning three-pointer with 1:28 left in regulation, giving the 20th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies a 77-72 win over the Blue Devils on their home floor. Williamson missed a second straight game with a mild right knee sprain, this after exiting the North Carolina Tar Heel game just 30 seconds on their home floor. The Hokies were also shorthanded on this night, as their leader, Justin Robinson, missed an eighth consecutive game with a left foot injury.
Kelly Blacksher Jr. had a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the home team, while Ahmed Hill had 17 points in Virginia Tech's 11th ACC victory of the season. It was a third straight time that Virginia Tech has defeated Duke on their home floor, handing the Blue Devils their first road loss of the season. They are the final team to drop a game away from home this season. They haven't defeated Virginia Tech on the road since February 25th, 2015.
RJ Barrett once again led the Blue Devils with 21 points, 17 of which came in the second half. The loss for the road team drops them out of a first-place tie with Virginia and North Carolina for the top spot in the conference. Cam Reddish added 17 points in Duke's second loss in the past three games, as they move on to play host to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday. The Hokies will hit the road that same day to visit the 18th-ranked Florida State Seminoles.
