The Ducks' last win had come on October 17th, 4-1, over the New York Islanders, as they had gone 0-5-2 since then. John Gibson made 24 saves between pipes, but did give up the tying goal late in the third to Pierre-Luc Dubois, who had both goals for Columbus. The Jackets dropped the final two games of their three-game west coast road trip, despite Joonas Koripisalo making 27 saves on the night.
Fowler's game-winner was assisted by Adam Henrique and was the 56th goal of his career, which ties Francois Beauchemi for the second-most by an Anaheim defenseman. He also became the seventh defenseman in NHL history to end a hat track with an overtime goal. In fact, the past three hat tricks have been by Anaheim defensemen, incluiding Hampus Lindholm in December of 2017 and Lubomir Visnovsky in March of 2011.
The defenseman now has three goals and two assists during a three-game point streak, doing so while the Ducks are shorthanded without Ryan Getzlaf. The veteran is listed as day-to-day and there is not yet word if he will be ready to go on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets return home that same night to host the Dallas Stars.
