The first devastating injury during the NFL Preseason took place on Thursday night and was confirmed on Friday afternoon. Washington Redskins rookie running back Derrius Guice went down during Thursday's game against the New England Patriots and it was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that he would miss the entire season with a torn ACL.
The injury occurred to his left knee at the end of the first quarter on a run, as he finished with 19 yards on six carries before exiting. He was seen in the locker room after the game, as there didn't seem to be any sense of urgency to get him checked out late Thursday night. That urgency is now there, as he looks to recover to return next season.
Guice was a second-round draft pick from the LSU Tigers, where he also dealt with some injury issues. He did miss one game last season with a strained knee, which was a common issue throughout his time with the Tigers.
Despite his on-the-field production, many draft experts questioned his character during the NFL Draft, which is what many believe to be why he dropped out of the first round. His teammates had nothing but good things to say about him during training camp, leading in to the first preseason game, saying he was "fun to watch" and a "great player." Unfortunately for Washington, they will have to wait at least a year to see that on the field during the regular season.
