Anthony Davis has turned from a rookie sensation for the Pelicans, to the leader of the team who is expected to carry the team right out of the funk they've been in the past few years. It's a franchise that has relocated several times, from Charlotte back to New Orleans, changed the team name, logo, anything to re-energize the team's faithful who continue to have hopes and dreams for their team. They had only one star in Chris Paul who gave them legitimate hopes at one day reaching the top. He did lead them to a couple playoff appearances, which both ended in early round exits. Paul then left for Hollywood, and the franchise has been on a search for that star to lead the way.
Many believe their recent top pick in Anthony Davis could be that one who leads them back to the playoffs and hopefully on a longer run. Davis showed signs of being that leader in college at Kentucky when he lead the team to the national championship in 2012. He would win the Most Outstanding Player award that year in that tournament, the year before he was drafted. His rookie season Dais showed a ton of promise, finishing second in the rookie of year voting to Damian Lillard. Many believe that is because of Davis's position. Davis is a center, which isn't known to be a leader of the floor, like Lillard's position of PG. Despite that, Davis intends on becoming that leader New Orleans has been looking for, even if he is the man tipping it off for the team to begin the game.
Due to a number of different happenings on Team USA, from Paul George's injury to Kevin Durant backing out Anthony Davis has quickly become the leader depended on to lead Team USA. This will give Davis a learning experience as a leader of a quality team, and he is expected to be a developed leader when he returns to New Orleans. So despite all of the criticism of players playing for Team USA, the Pelicans can look at Anthony Davis and find a positive.
