The Kansas City Chiefs had their way with the New England Patriots Monday night in a 41-14 blowout victory. This knocked the Patriots record down to .500, while lifting the Chiefs record to .500 as well. Kansas City shutout the Tom Brady-led offense in the 1st half, heading in to the locker room with a 17-0 lead. Jamaal Charles found the end zone twice in the 1st half, on a 2 yard run and catching a 5 yard pass. A 22-yard field goal from Cairo Santos lead the Chiefs to the 17-point advantage.
Charles ended the game with 3 TD's, adding in an 8 yard reception for a score in the 3rd. Alex Smith went 20/26 for 248 yards, and 3 touchdown passes. He also found Travis Kelce for a 2-yard score in the 4th. Jamaal Charles ran for 92 yards, and caught 3 passes for 16 yards on the night.
The Chiefs defensively shutdown and rattled the Patriots offense, including a 39-yard interception returned for a touchdown by Husain Abdullah in the 4th. Tom Brady finished the night just 14/23, for 159 yards, and 2 interceptions. The only bright spot for the Pats offense was a 44 yard TD pass to Brandon LaFell in the 3rd.
Tom Brady was pulled in the 4th quarter with the game seemingly out of hand. He was replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo who went 6/7, for 70 yards, and a 13 yard TD pass to Rob Gronkowski in the 4th. The loss for the Patriots was the second-worst loss in the Bill Belichick era, behind a 31-0 loss to the Bills in 2003. The Patriots schedule does not get any easier, hosting the undefeated Cincinnati Bengals Sunday night.
