The Cleveland Cavaliers were recently forced to fire head coach Tyronn Lue, and just one day later, the best player has gone down for the winless team. Kevin Love is set to miss over a month with a toe injury, which was announced on Monday morning. The injury is on the left foot of the five-time All-Star, who will consult with doctors later on this week to get verification on the severity of the injury. The former Minnesota Timberwolves forward was going to play through it, but the rebuilding nature of the organization have it making no sense as to why he would do so.
There is no word on whether or not surgery is even in the conversation, as some has said that just resting would be enough for the injury to heal. Love did sign a four-year, $120 million extension in the off-season after LeBron James left in free agency for the Los Angeles Lakers. The 30-year-old has missed the last two games for the Cavaliers, and even when he was playing, was not performing to the level he was expected to be at.
The star has averaged 19 points and 13.5 rebounds so far this season, but has shot just 32 percent from the floor, including 29 percent from three-point range. He has the opportunity to get back where he was in Minnesota, which was averaging nearly 30 points per game and leading the team to success. Although, the Cavs seem to be starting over early, firing coach Lue on Sunday after an 0-6 start to their season. Interim head coach Larry Drew will take over on Tuesday night.
