Recently-released outfielder Carlos Gomez is remaining in the state of Texas, as he agreed to a minor-league deal with the Rangers on Saturday. Gomez will report to Triple-A Round Rock, and is expected to be in the lineup for Sunday's game.
The struggling outfielder was waived by the Houston Astros over a week ago, but was not officially released until Friday. Gomez was hitting just .210 with five home runs and 29 RBI in 85 games this season. He has also spent time with the Brewers, Twins, and Mets in his career.
Gomez won a Gold Glove with the Brewers as a centerfielder in 2013, The 30-year-old is expected to be used as a corner outfielder with Shin-Soo Choo out with a fractured arm, and Ian Desmond manning the centerfield position.
