The Arizona Cardinals announced on Friday afternoon that they have given quarterback Carson Palmer and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald one-year extensions. Palmer's deal keeps him with the team through 2018, with Fitzgerald now signed through 2017.
The star receiver had reportedly been contemplating this season as his last, but has gone on to clarify that he has "a lot of good football" left. The 13-year player had an impressive season this past year, recording a career-high 109 receptions for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns.
Palmer's deal is his second extension in the past couple of seasons, and it's well deserved after he's come back from a torn ACL, as well as a finger injury that affected him in the NFC Championship Game. This recent extension makes his deal worth a total of $24 million and does include a $6.75 million signing bonus.
The quarterback also had himself a career year last season, recording career-highs with 4,671 yards and 35 touchdowns. Palmer originally joined the Cardinals in 2013 in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. He is since 29-9 as Arizona's starter, including 19-3 over the last two seasons.
Both Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald are nearing the end of their careers, but are still playing a major role in the Arizona offense that has them in the playoff hunt year-after-year. Both players will most likely use the length of these extensions as their final playoff runs in the NFL.
