The Boston Bruins can score from just about anywhere on the ice, and anywhere on their roster, including the blue line thanks to Torey Krug. Well the first place team in the Atlantic Division will be without that blue line threat for a while, as they placed Krug on injured reserve on Friday with an undisclosed injury. The defenseman could be out of the lineup for only a week, but the team made the move to place him on IR so they could fill his roster spot with a move from their AHL affiliate.
It is unclear what specifically Krug injured, but it is known that he suffered the unknown injury in Monday's 7-3 win over the Washington Capitals. The injury occurred on a heavy hit from a well-known hard-hitter, Tom Wilson, as Krug was sent in to the side boards hard in the second period. He was down on the ice for a few moments before exiting to the locker room and not returning to the game.
In 33 games this season Krug has five goals and 21 assists, leading all Bruins defenseman in scoring so far this season. The move to IR forces him to sit for at least seven days, which may be all he needs, but while he is out Steven Kampfer will get a shot at the NHL after he was recalled from Providence. The team made these moves ahead of their matchup with the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.
