The Denver Broncos will soon be visiting the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory with the president, but they will be without cornerback Aqib Talib. The Broncos' defensive star was reportedly shot in the leg at a Dallas nightclub over the weekend. He was released from the hospital on Sunday after receiving stitches, but did not have damage to any arteries or ligaments.
The bullet reportedly entered and exited Talib's lower right leg, but the team says that their player did not suffer any major injury that will hold him back during the off-season. The team has spoken to Talib about the incident as they get ready for their first mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.
There has not been any details released about what actually went down, but the Broncos have been in contact with the league, and stated that they "will provide additional updates as appropriate."
There is no word on whether Talib was at fault, but some friends and family may be extra worried due to his history. The 30-year-old was arrested in 2009 for assaulting a cab driver. which lead to a suspension in 2010. He has also been arrested in 2011 on an aggravated assault charge. And along with his brother, he was questioned at the scene of an aggravated assault in 2015.
Aqib recently signed a six-year deal with the Broncos in 2014, and thankfully he was not seriously hurt in this recent incident. Although, it may be a problem that the league, and the team, need to take seriously.
