The Jacksonville Jaguars were coming off an AFC Championship Game appearance a season ago, which had them with plenty of confidence in a weak AFC South. Instead, they are now a part of the weakness that is the division, and it has gotten to the point of benching quarterback Blake Bortles. That is exactly what they had to do on Sunday afternoon in a 20-7 loss to the Houston Texans. Bortles was benched in the third quarter after completed just six of his 12 passes for 61 yards in his team's fourth loss of the season, including two at home.
Cody Kessler took over for Jacksonville and led them to their lone touchdown of the game, going 21-of-30 for 156 yards and a touchdown pass. That scoring throw was to T.J. Yeldon in the third quarter. Bortles was sacked four times on the day, but the Texans' did not get to the rookie backup in the win.
Deshaun Watson continued his clean play with 139 yards and a touchdown pass on the day, as Houston won their fourth straight game following an 0-3 start. Lamar Miller also had a productive day with 100 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, as Houston pulled their road record to .500 at 2-2.
Bortles' issues also included two fumbles, which led to 10 points for Houston, who forced three turnovers on the day. The Texans now sit a game ahead of the Tennessee Titans for the top spot in the AFC South, as they will host the Miami Dolphins next week. The Jaguars move on to London for a battle with the defending Super Bowl Champions Philadelphia Eagles.
