The Portland Trail Blazers may have fell short in a major way in the Western Conference Finals, but their run this season to get there was enough to reward head coach Terry Stotts. Just one day after the Golden State Warriors completed their sweep of the Blazers at the Moda Center, Portland gave Stotts a multiyear extension. The deal was announced on Tuesday, but the official terms of the contract were not disclosed. Despite not getting one win against the Warriors, the Trail Blazers still reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
The deep playoff run for Portland was not expected, especially after they lost key big man, Jusuf Nurkic, to a gruesome injury on March 25th. Nurkic fractured his leg in a game against the Brooklyn Nets at home, but was still present on the Blazers' bench throughout the postseason.
The 61-year-old Stotts just finished his seventh season with the Trail Blazers, which has included six consecutive playoff appearances. Over his seven seasons, he has posted a record of 325-249, and in 11 seasons as an NBA coach, he has a record of 440-417. That includes stints with the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks. He is sticking around in Portland for now, where they look to be a threat in the Western Conference for years to come.
