It took 101 minutes, but the Chicago Blackhawks oulasted the Nashville Predators yet again in the second multiple overtime game of the series on Tuesday night. Brent Seabrook scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime to lift Chicago past Nashville 3-2, giving them a 3-1 series lead. The goal put an end to the longest game in this year's postseason so far.
Seabrook's shot was the 100th shot on the game, assisted by Patrick Kane, which also ended the longest game in Predators' franchise history. Scott Darling made his second career postseason start for the Blackhawks and made 50 saves in the win. Brandon Saad and Antoine Vermette scored the other 2 goals for Chicago.
Colin Wilson and James Neal scored the lone goals for Nashville, who gave up a 2-1 third period lead. Neal's goal was his first in the playoffs since last May. Pekka Rinne had 45 saves in the losing effort. Both Rinne and Darling robbed potential game-winners in the first 2 overtime sessions. Rinne robbed Andrew Desjardins, while Darling stopped Neal and Filip Forsberg to get the crowd of 22,014 on their feet.
Seabrook was the first to find the back of the net in overtime, scoring his 14th career playoff goal at 1:16 a.m. He also had 2 overtime winners in 2013 when the Blackhawks went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Nashville was in a tough spot on the road, playing without Shea Weber and Mike Fisher, who were both out with lower-body injuries. Fisher suffered his injury in the series opener, and Weber's occurred in game 2 of the series. Neither player traveled with the team for games 3 or 4. Fisher is listed as day-to-day.
The Predators will fight to keep their season alive in game 5 at home on Thursday night.
