The Cincinnati Bengals began their season without star wide receiver A.J. Green, which has played a big role in why they have started the year 0-4. Although, filling in his spot as quarterback Andy Dalton's top target has been John Ross, but who would take that role after him? Well, the Bengals will have to figure that out for their game Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, as Ross has been placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Ross is expected to miss "a few weeks" after suffering the injury in Monday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ross was slammed down hard to the ground in the fourth quarter of their 27-3 loss at Heinz Field, which was their fourth consecutive loss to begin the season. The injury is specifically to his right shoulder, as the NFL Network was the first to report that he would miss multiple games.
He did not return to Monday's game, finishing with three catches on six targets for 36 yards, as the entire Bengals offense struggled with just 175 total yards on the night. Ross was a first-round draft pick in 2017, and has been the Bengals' top wideout with Green down. In his absence, Ross has recorded 16 catches for 328 yard and three touchdowns. The Bengals as a team have just five touchdowns on the season, although, this will be the third consecutive season that Ross will miss multiple games with an injury.
