The Cincinnati Bengals' nice start to the season can be thanked in part to their fourth quarter success, and they had plenty of that on Sunday afternoon. After trailing by 14 entering the final 15 minutes, the Bengals scored 24 points in the fourth to rally past the Miami Dolphins, 27-24, at home. Their defense stepped up to lead the 27 unanswered points run, as Michael Johnson tied the game with an interception returned for a touchdown. It was then Sam Hubbard who scooped up a fumble and returned it 19 yards to give his team the lead for good.
Cincinnati trailed by as many as 17 on this day, but came back to hand the Dolphins their second straight loss. They did get running back Joe Mixon back from knee surgery and improved to 4-1 on the season, which is their best start since the 2015 season, which ended with a playoff berth. Following the Baltimore Ravens' overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns, the Bengals now sit all alone atop the AFC North Division.
This rally comes one week after A.J. Green had a game-winning touchdown catch with seven seconds to play in regulation against the Atlanta Falcons. Andy Dalton got this comeback going with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Mixon, who ran for 93 yards and caught three passes after missing two games. Randy Bullock also had a go-ahead 20-yard field goal, which didn't last for long as the Dolphins tied it with a kick of their own.
Ryan Tannehill continued to struggle after leading his team to a 3-0 start, as the quarterback was just 20-of-35 for 185 yards with three turnovers. He did find running back Kenyan Drake for a 22-yard score early on, but the Dolphins dropped in to a first-place tie with the New England Patriots for the top spot in the AFC East. They will be right back at it next week, hosting the Chicago Bears. The Bengals will play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers next week.
