Trevor Bauer has been the most consistent arm in the Cleveland Indians' starting rotation this season, and he's done that by putting together a career year. That landed him at the 2018 MLB All-Star Game in Washington D.C., but now he has landed on the disabled list. The Indians were forced to put him there on Tuesday due to a stress fracture in his leg.
The medical team officially called it a "small stress fracture" in his right fibula. Manager Terry Francona says there is no official timetable for his return. Bauer suffered the injury during Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox, as he took a line drive to the ankle. He would exit the game, was seen limping in the clubhouse after the game, and underwent what at the time was called "precautionary" x-rays. At that time, Francona expected his All-Star to be ready for his next start against the Baltimore Orioles.
Instead, the team was forced to call up Tyler Olson from Triple-A, but it will be Adam Pltuko getting Bauer's start on Saturday. The team has also listed Josh Tomlin as another option to get a start while Bauer is out, as he is currently on his first-career DL stint.
The right-hander is 12-6 this season with a 2.22 ERA, which ranks third in the American League. He also ranks second in the league with 214 strikeouts, leading "The Tribe" to a very comfortable advantage in the AL Central Division. The Indians entered Tuesday with a 12.5-game lead on the second-place Minnesota Twins. They are currently on the road, battling their in state rivals, the Cincinnati Reds.
