The Alabama Crimson Tide are once again looked at as SEC favorites and are expected to contend for the College Football Playoff under head coach Nick Saban this season. Although, they already took a blow before the season even began, as inside linebacker Dylan Moses is expected to miss the entire 2019 season. This is because of a serious knee injury that he suffered at practice on Tuesday. Moses will require surgery on the knee, and coach Saban said in a press conference that he is out "indefinitely."
Moses was thought highly off heading in to the season, as he was ranked No. 13 on Mel Kiper's draft board for ESPN heading in to next April's NFL Draft. He was a finalist for the Butkus Award last season when he finished with 86 total tackles, including 10 for loss. to go along with 3.5 sacks.
The Crimson Tide defense that was lit up in a National Championship Game loss to the Clemson Tigers last January was already shorthanded, as linebacker Joshua McMillon suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier this month. With these two injuries, sophomore Markail Benton is expected to step up, as he was listed as Moses' backup on the depth chart. He had 14 tackles last season, and will most likely get the start when the Tide opens their season on Saturday afternoon against the Duke Blue Devils.
