The Colorado Avalanche brought in Andre Burakovsky earlier this off-season in a trade with the Washington Capitals, and did what the Caps refused to do. That was to lock in the restricted free agent, as the Avalanche gave the forward a new one-year contract, which is worth $3.25 million. The 24-year-old was acquired from the Capitals on June 28th in exchange for Scott Kosmachuk and two draft picks in the 2020 NHL Draft.
It was not always the plan for Burakovsky to move on from Washington, as he signed a two-year, $6 million in July of 2017, but the two sides could not come up with a deal to keep him in our nation's capital. After signing the contract, his production became a bit inconsistent, which threw him in to trade rumors.
Burakovsky was a first-round pick in 2013 from the Capitals, and ended up playing 328 games for them. He is coming off a season that saw him play in 76 games, as he finished with 12 goals and 13 assists on the year. Since getting selected, he has recorded 145 points, including 62 goals in his NHL career.
