Arkansas Razorback running back Jonathan Williams underwent foot surgery on Monday and will miss the entire regular season. Williams, a second All-SEC selection, suffered the injury to his left foot in a scrimmage on Saturday. It was known that he would miss an extended period of time, but the exact length was not known.
Williams, who led the team in rushing in 2014, is expected to make a full recovery. Williams' tweet on Monday was positive, saying "Surgery went well. Blessed." Head coach Bret Bielema announced the news to reporters.
Bielema also stated how unfortunate the situation is, but he has no doubt that Williams will come back stronger than ever.
Williams, entering his senior year, played in all 13 games last season, starting 11 of them. He rushed for 1,190 yards and 12 touchdowns. Williams, along with teammate Alex Collins, was the only FBS running back duo of two 1,000-yard rushers.
Collins rushed for 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Williams is the school's 10th-leading rusher all-time with 2,321 yards. Junior Kody Walker and freshman Rawleigh Williams III are expected to take most of the reps with their star down.
